Mathieu Debuchy could leave Arsenal in January, while Vincent Kompany's injury woes continue. That and more from the Friday papers.
Debuchy could leave Arsenal - Mathieu Debuchy is unsure of his long-term future at Arsenal. The Telegraph understand that the fullback will evaluate his place at the club and what it means for his career in January, possibly with an eye towards leaving. Debuchy lost his first choice place last season when ankle and shoulder injuries sidelined him and has only started three matches so far this season.
Paper Round's view - Debuchy looks unlikely to regain his first choice spot right now. Hector Bellerin has more upside and Debuchy hasn't been particularly impressive in his few appearances this season. It will be interesting to see if the Gunners are open to selling him seeing as they will need cover at fullback, but with Debuchy 31 years old now, they may be happy to sell because his value will only go down from here.
Manchester City's Vincent Kompany looks dejected - Reuters
Kompany to miss City's next match - Vincent Kompany will remain on the sidelines when Manchester City take onNewcastle this weekend, according to The Manchester Evening News. Kompany hurt his calf two weeks ago and while he thought that he was fit enough to play last weekend against Spurs, he had issues with the muscle in warm-ups. Now he's going to miss another match and will likely be out for Belgium's qualifiers, which means he'll get the entire international break to recover.
Paper Round's view - Calf injuries can be tricky and it's smart that Kompany is not going to take chances with it. With the international break coming up, he can miss one match and get a long layoff to get fit again, but if he plays and re-aggravates the injury then he's looking at a long spell on the sidelines. Nicolas Otamendi and Martin Demichelismay not be the Citizens' best pairing, but they're perfectly fine and City can get through the Magpies with that duo.
Aston Villa's Jack Grealish - PA Sport
Sherwood blocked Grealish call - Roy Hodgson wanted to bring Jack Grealish into training with England for next week, but The Mirror claim that Tim Sherwood said no. Grealish has yet to receive approval from FIFA to play for England - it's considered a formality - so he can't play in a match yet, but Hodgson wanted him to get acclimated to the team. Sherwood doesn't believe Grealish is fit enough, though, and is requiring the player go through a "special programme" next week.
Paper Round's view - Grealish played 69 minutes last weekend so it's crazy for Sherwood to claim he's not fit enough to train with England. It's not like they're asking him to play 90 minutes in each of the two matches. If Sherwood has some concerns, he could share those with Hodgson and ask that the Three Lions keep an eye on him. This doesn't mean much in the long run, but it's still silly.
Jose Holebas - AFP
Watford already want to dump Holebas - Jose Holebas has played three matches for Watford and The Mirror say that the Hornets already want to sell him. Holebas signed to be Watford's left back in the summer, but has already fallen to third choice. Now it looks unlikely that he makes the matchday squad and the club are already looking to move him in January.
Paper Round's view - Quique Sanchez Flores is apparently unhappy with Holebas' attitude. No one who isn't at training every day can really comment on that, but on play alone, it's tough to fall as far as Holebas has in this short a time period. He hasn't played particularly well for Watford, but he's a proven player who was solid in Serie A just a year ago. Ikechi Anya and Nathan Ake are promising, but to be looking to sell Holebas already is shocking.
