Wayne Rooney wanted out, but never demanded it, while Kevin De Bruyne is getting paid huge wages. That and more from Tuesday's papers.
Rooney says he never handed in transfer request -Wayne Rooney had two well-documented clashes withManchester United, but, contrary to reports, he says he never handed in a transfer request. He admitted to discussing a move with Sir Alex Ferguson in an upcoming BBC documentary, but also said, "I never put in a transfer request. I don't know why it came out that way." Rooney went public with his desire to be sold in 2010 and Chelseamade two bids for him in 2013.
Paper Round's view - It doesn't really matter whether Rooney handed in a transfer request or not. At least not at this point. He wanted out and was pushing the club to let him go, but a new contract from the Red Devils satisfied him and both parties are relatively happy with the relationship now. That's what matters, not the potential of a transfer request from the past.
De Bruyne's wages quadrupled at Man City - Manchester City are paying Kevin De Bruyne four times what he was atWolfsburg, the German club's sporting director told the press. De Bruyne joined Man City in a £52 million deal so it's not a surprise that he is being paid handsomely and Wolfsburg said that they almost had no choice but to sell with De Bruyne in line to get paid to much. "Kevin received an offer that could very well be a once in a lifetime opportunity," the sporting director said.

Paper Round's view - Man City pays players well and with the amount of money that they paid Wolfsburg, De Bruyne was always going to be on big wages, but it's crazy to think that his salary quadrupled. Good for him on cashing in and on Wolfsburg for realizing the opportunity in front of the midfielder. At that point, they almost have an obligation to sell, something they appear to have been aware of, and they did well to maximize their return as well.
Victor Valdes - Imago
Valdes handed harsh training rules - Victor Valdes isn't wanted anywhere near the Manchester United team and Louis van Gaal is making that abundant clear. The Mirror understand that van Gaal has instructed that Valdes can only show up to the team's training ground when the first team is not there and that he can only do so on his own with a youth team manager. The manager hasn't even said this to Valdes directly, letting a coach to so.
Paper Round's view - It's no secret that van Gaal doesn't particularly like Valdes and, unsurprisingly, Valdes doesn't like van Gaal, but this is an exceptional level of pettiness. Not only is van Gaal putting extreme limitations on Valdes, but he won't even tell Valdes himself. There's no doubt that the Dutchman is a great manager, but there's a reason he hasn't spent more than four years at a club in nearly 20 years. He's a jerk.
Jack Grealish has pledged his international future to England - PA Sport
Grealish picks England, but won't get Three Lions call yet - Jack Grealish has decided to play for England instead ofIreland. The 20-year-old tweeted his decision, but The Sun claim that he won't be called up for the Three Lions quite yet. Roy Hodgson is set to name his squad for the upcoming qualifiers against Estonia and Lithuania, but Grealish will not be on it because he previously played for Ireland youth teams so FIFA has to approve his England switch before he can suit up for his birth country.
Paper Round's view - It's tough to criticize a player for choosing one country over another. Maybe Grealish feels more attached to England, or maybe he just thinks they're a better team and it will be better for his career. Either way, he can do as he pleases. Now it's just a matter of waiting for FIFA, who shouldn't have a problem with the switch, but they have shown in the past that it can take months before they approve it.
Goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux - PA Sport
Vigouroux pays fine in pennies, gets dropped by Swindon - Lawrence Vigouroux's loan at Swindon Town is over after he paid a fine in pennies, per The Mail. The club fined the 21-year-old goalkeeper £150 for showing up late to training. The team agreed to lower the fine to £50, but when Vigouroux paid, he did so with bags of pennies. Unhappy with Vigouroux's attitude about the matter, Swindon decided it best to cut ties with the goalkeeper and cut his loan short, sending him back to Liverpool.
Paper Round's view - Most any player would expect a fine if he showed up to training late. Maybe he had a good reason, but that's the norm nearly everywhere. The club even lowered his fine and yet Vigouroux tried to make a statement in paying it in pennies? Maybe it was a harmless joke, but there was no way that was ever going to go over well.
