Aston Villa attacker Jack Grealish has committed his international future to England, the club announced on Monday.
Grealish, who has gone from strength to strength under current manager Tim Sherwood, could have opted to play for the Republic of Ireland due to family ties, but the 20-year-old has committed to playing for Roy Hodgson's Three Lions.
And in a statement released on his Twitter page, the midfielder indicated that it was a difficult decision but he ultimately chose the country of his birth.
"I have decided to give my allegiance to England", the tweet read.
"It was not an easy decision as Ireland has a special place with me through my family.
"However, I have decided to represent the country of my birth".
Villa have suffered from an indifferent start to the Premier League campaign, with just four points from seven matches, but Grealish will be hoping his own performances have shown enough to earn a call-up from England manager Hodgson.
The Villa man had previously featured for the Republic of Ireland at youth level but will now have his first opportunity to represent the Three Lions in the upcoming Euro 2016 qualifying matches with Estonia and Lithuania.
