Premier League, White Hart Lane -Tottenham Hotspur 4 (Dier 45’ Alderweireld 50’ Kane 61’ Lamela 79’) Manchester City 1 (De Bruyne 25’)
Manchester City lost their second successive league game asHarry Kane’s first club goal of the season in Spurs’ 4-1 victory at White Hart Lane.
Manchester City opened the scoring when they broke from their own half through Yaya Toure, who slid in a pass for De Bruyne, who was slightly offside, to finish with a low shot across Hugo Lloris.
Spurs never appeared to be struggling, but didn’t look like scoring until Heung-Min Son’s shot was blocked from Kyle Walker - who was also in an offside position - crossed. The ball was cleared after Willy Caballero blocked at close range, and Eric Dier’s shot fizzed in from forty yards after De Bruyne’s poor clearance went straight to him. Caballero was only playing in Joe Hart’s place after the regular ‘keeper suffered a minor back injury.
In the second half, Toby Alderweireld headed City into the lead when his effort from an Erik Lamela looped over Caballero, lost in the six-yard box. 10 minutes later, Kane had his first in about 12 hours of league football when he - again offside - pounced on Christian Eriksen’s free kick, which hit the post and rebounded into his path. Lamela ensured victory when Clinton Njie crossed from the right for him to round Caballero.

Harry Kane’s goal was his first in seven Premier League games this season.
Manchester City had won five successive Premier League away games until today.
TALKING POINT
Do Manchester City have the resilience to hit back in Europe? Against Sunderland they demolished their opposition in midweek, following a defeat at home to West Ham. Today, they have failed again in the Premier League and have to play Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League on Wednesday. They might have to do it without David Silva, Joe Hart and now Yaya Toure. They started the season impressively, but this is another test of their spirit.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Eric Dier (Spurs): Not only did he equalise, but he stood up to a Manchester City midfield of Fernando, Fernandinho and Yaya Toure. It is in no small part due to Dier’s intelligence and energy that the opposition only briefly dominated his side in midfield.
