POCHETTINO STEERS CLEAR OF COSTA CONTROVERSY AHEAD OF ARSENAL SHOWDOWN

The Gunners lost a toxic derby against Chelsea 2-0 at the weekend but the Argentine is insistent that the result will not have a bearing on their clash on Wednesday

Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino does not expect the fallout from Saturday's controversial meeting between Chelseaand Arsenal to affect Wednesday's north London derby.

Arsenal head to White Hart Lane in the League Cup third round on the back of a 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge - a game they finished with nine men, while Chelsea striker Diego Costa went unpunished for tangling with Laurent Koscielny and the subsequently dismissed Gabriel.

Costa was charged with violent conduct after the game and has subsequently been hit with a three-match ban, but Pochettino insists that the Gunners will not be bearing any emotional scars when they take to the field against their fierce rivals.

"I think that every game is different," he told a press conference. "I think now it is Tottenham against Arsenal – a different game.

"It's a derby, a special game for us. But it is impossible to relate this situation. It is an incident from a different game but this is football. Sometimes it happens, this kind of action."

Pochettino also insists that Harry Kane will break his scoring duck in the coming weeks, having failed to find the net thus far this season after hitting 31 goals in all competitions last term.

"No, I am not concerned. I think it's coming," he added.

"Always, with a striker, when they score – they feel better when they score. But I am happy with him, he works very hard for the team with unbelievable effort for the team.

"I am sure that the goal is coming."

Kane scored both goals as Spurs beat Arsenal 2-1 at White Hart Lane in 2015-16.
