Paper Round: England to offer Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola £10m-a-year deal

England will reportedly offer Bayern Munichboss Pep Guardiola an astonishing deal to become their next manager. That and more from Friday's papers.

FA want Guardiola to be England boss - Could Pep Guardiola be the next manager of England? The Sun understands that the FA are willing to pay Guardiola a staggering £10 million-a-year to replace Roy Hodgson. Many expect Guardiola to leave Bayern Munich in the summer, which is when Hodgson is expected to vacate the England post. Manchester City are said to be interested, but England also want him. The FA has undergone some belt tightening of late, but the FA would find the money for Guardiola if he wanted the job.
Paper Round's view - Whoever lands Guardiola, be it Manchester City, England or another club, will have to pay him huge money so £10m a year isn't ridiculous considering who they're talking about. The question is whether Guardiola is worth that enormous outlay for a national team job. He wouldn't have access to the players daily and installing his system would be difficult with sporadic camps. If he can't do that, is he worth paying all that money for? It would seem very strange considering Guardiola's entire approach is based around coaching rather than simply organising and motivating.

Klopp ready for Liverpool job - Jurgen Klopp is ready to return to management and take over at Liverpool, according to a report in the Daily Mail. Brendan Rodgers's job is in doubt and Liverpool already reached out to Carlo Ancelottiabout his interest in the role. The Reds haven't yet talked to Klopp, but he's made it clear that he would like the gig.
Paper Round's view - Ancelotti is a long shot for Liverpool because the Italian likes taking over established teams in the Champions League. Klopp isn't quite as picky and would probably enjoy building a young squad, which he would get to do at Liverpool. There have also been rumours that he is waiting to see if Guardiola leaves Bayern this summer because that's the job he really wants, but if he's not going to be hired there then Liverpool have to feel like they have a strong chance of landing the German.

United tell Van Gaal to prove himself - Louis van Gaal wants to stay at Manchester United long-term, but do they want him? A source told The Star that Van Gaal has made it clear he wants a contract extension past 2017, but Manchester United need to see that he's the right man for the job. They're not yet convinced apparently. "He still has to convince bosses he is worth a contract extension," the source said. "He won't be handed one on a plate and it is almost as if he is on trial."
Paper Round's view - There's little reason for United to give Van Gaal a new deal right now. He's hinted at retirement after he's finished at Old Trafford so it's not like they have to worry about another club poaching him, and his current deal takes him through two more seasons anyway. If Van Gaal has the team progressing, they can give him a new contract then.

Ashley to back McClaren in January - Newcastle's transfer policy this summer seems to have failed them, but the Daily Telegraph claims that Mike Ashley isn't giving up on the team, manager Steve McClaren, managing director Lee Charnley or chief scout Graham Carr. Instead, Ashley will give the trio the funds to make further signings in January and overhaul the team. In addition to the money provided by Ashley, the team will also sell some players as McClaren looks to rid the squad of those he thinks he have a poor attitude.
Paper Round's view - If overhauling a team in January sounds like a good way to increase instability and make staying up difficult, imagine if the manager, director and chief scout were changed too? As bad of a start as the team is off to, and as much as it would seem wise to change all of those in charge, this isn't the time to do it. At this point, backing the club enough to maintain their place in the Premier League and starting anew in the summer is probably the best approach.

Watford won't let Adebayor train with club - Emmanuel Adebayor asked Watford if he could train with their team, but the Hornets said no, according to the Daily Mirror. Adebayor wants to improve his fitness and, being out of contract, doesn't have a place to do it. Quique Sanchez Flores doesn't want him with his team, though. A Watford source said, “The manager has always said since the summer that he wants to work with as few players as possible and that remains the case.”
Paper Round's view - Watford can't afford Adebayor's wages so it's not like letting him train with the team gives them a chance to see what kind of quality he has or gives them the inside track to signing him. They have no reason to let Adebayor train with them outside of wanting to be nice guys, but that's rarely the reason anyone does anything in football.
